| The origin of the Westmont Field Club is unclear. The Westmont Field is known to have existed at least during the c.1900 to c.1920 era. It was located approximately between Glenwood Avenue (near Haddon Avenue) and Crystal Lake Avenue, and near Westmont Avenuue in the vicinity of Ardmore Avenue. The field abutted right up to the railroad track crossing at Glenwood Avenue. In the 1919 photo above, the crossing is visible at left center. In in the upper left corner are the stylizied twin homes that still line the west side of Glenwood Avenue off Haddon Avenue. In the 1920 and 1930s, baseball continued to be played. At some point play moved to a field off Maple Avenue. Teams that competed in field club play represented organizations, neighborhoods and nearby towns. | ![]() |
