The James Stoy Elementary School was constructed in 1928 under Board of Eductation President J.R.Y. Blakely. The original part of the building; the tall three story section was designed by architect, Charles R. Peddle and built by the Camden Construction Company. That building has four upper-story classrooms, a top floor office, and basement classrooms. In 1956, the main central portion of the building with the all-purpose room and central corridor of classrooms was added. Stoy School is named after James Stoy an early landowner who provided the land for the first school in the area (the first Rowandtown Schoolhouse) built on Haddon Avenue about 1840. The James Stoy Elementary School is located at 206 Briarwood Avenue.

At left, the bronze plaque that hangs instide the entrance to the old part of the school. At right, the old school colors. For many years the school colors were orange and yellow. The decal and felt patches date from the 1970s. The school has since adopted the standard Haddon Township red and white as school colors.
